Memorial Park has changed somewhat since then, but the Obelisk (despite its resiting in 1921) has remained a significant landmark in Armadale.

I love the way that it is sited in a place that is so full of life. A reminder of what they died for, freedom and the joy of life.

We were supposed to be married in St Mary of the Valley in Kelmscott, as St Matthews was being closed for much needed renovations and expansion. However a glitch happened and St Mary in the Valley was not going to be concecrated until week later on 1st December 1963. We found out about 10 days before the big day. So we had to have a quick run around to advise guests it was in St Matthews, Armadale. So instead of first marriage in the new St Mary in the Valley we the last marriage inthe old part of St Matthews. Reverend Bolt officiated.
