The images on this traveling canvas are beginning to grow.  I decided to create a painting taken from the photo of Stepney Road, (see 13th August blog), as it was part of the art walking, art talking experience after all, even if the art did not happen at the time.

The bowling club is also a new feature to traveling canvas 2

True to his word David did bring a sample of his peas, (see yesterdays blog), three packs infact so there was some left for the freezer.  I decided to make a pie floater, in true north country fashion.  He cooks his mushy peas with a ham hock, something I hadn’t tried before, it was delicious. Thanks David.

During the whole time I’d been painting there had been a constant banter going on between Richard and David. After I’d finished I decided to join them, we talked about all manner of things: country of origin, family, jobs and especially cooking.  David had brought his daughter up single-handed where upon he learnt to cook good solid food, but always with a flourish.  He told me how he had introduced steak pudding and jam rolly-polly to his daughters friend.  She told her mum about it, who was very intrigued, so the next day he went around and cooked it for her parents.  He went on to talk about mushy peas at which point he promised to bring some around to the studio the next day for me to sample.

The bowling club is not just about bowling, it is also considered to be a social club.

On reflection Keith doesn’t know why he put up such a fight, he can see now that he never really stood a chance.  His next door neighbour gave him such a hard time, and to make matters worse, he ganged up with fellow neighbours across the road. Together they directed a relentless campaign towards Keith who finally surrendered, if only to shut them up.  He dragged his feet as he entered the bowling club for the first time thirteen years ago, and they haven’t been able to keep him out since.
