I was back at the studio today and hung up the traveling canvas once more.  I will be working in the studio three times a week from now on and at home for the remainder as this will be the most productive I think.

Today was the first official open studio which was very successful.  A guided tour was given around the back rooms of the Old Post Office, (which many people found interesting in itself).  The feedback from the tour indicated that they were surprised and delighted by the complexities of the project and how well all the different aspects integrated.  They particularly enjoyed seeing behind the scenes into the art-making process.  As the project is about Armadale, many people were able to relate and respond to the project with their own stories and experiences.

The Old Post Office is presently the venue for Arts Vision Armadale (AVA), my residency being part of this program.  A wide variety of activities and exhibitions have been planned for the coming months. The Printmaking Association of WA presently have an exhibition of prints in the main gallery – a floor talk about printmaking was held yesterday by Michael Kane Taylor and local artist Ruby Ellen will be demonstrating collagraph printing techniques (Thursdays at 1pm).  Check it out.  Opening hours: Wed – Sun 11am – 3pm.

One of the rooms which I am working in as part of the residency.

My studio occupies the back rooms of the Post Office and will be open to the public on Friday’s 11am – 3pm from now until the end of October.  You are welcome to come and see the works in progress, chat about the project or offer your insights about Armadale.

The portrait panels are becoming more visable from the street with each new addition.  If you are waiting for yours to appear be patient, I am working on it.

Portraits of some of people I have met during my painting expeditions.

There are two traveling canvas’s one that is ‘active’ and is either traveling or being worked on in the studio, while the other is resting and on show. Provision has now been made for the resting canvas to hang outside during the day.

The Old Post Office is going to be home for the duration of The Armadale Project. and today I got to see the inside for the first time. The image below providing the only impression I’d had of it, that is, until today. The interior has been completely transformed by the installation of the The Moorjditch Mar-Daa Art Award exhibition, which is part of the NAIDOC week celebrations. In case you are wondering, the exhibition is being held in the Old Post Office on the corner of Jull Street Mall and Commerce Avenue, Armadale and is open from 11am to 4pm daily from Saturday 5th July to Sunday 13 July.
