Although all the paintings to date have been instigated through the art walking… art talking excursions I have made one exception to this.  I don’t think one open day has past by without someone mentioning the heritage tree.

The centennial tree has been added to the traveling canvas.

The heritage tree is not only of importance because of its age and size, but it represents the resolve of the people of Armadale who fought the developers to save it.  A wry smile is often detectable as the tellers relate the fact that the tree was saved,  the shopping centre having to be built around it.

One of the tafe students I spoke to said the train station was important to her as it enabled her to travel to and from tafe and provided a link to the rest of Perth.

If only I could maintain this level of productivity I would be laughing.

Getting there…

I do like Mondays, the theory is that nobody is supposed to disturb me, leaving me to get on with the work, and today that actually happened.  I spent all day in glorious peace and got so much done because of it.  It was great.

All the various elements are now in this painting, it just has to be brought up to scratch.

Today was a great day, not only were plenty of people coming through for open day, but their enthusiasm was tangible.

Behind projects like this, there are mountains of prep work and organisational tasks to perform and these can be extremely time consuming.  Today I had some fantastic help with this, which really lifted a lot of weight from my shoulders, freeing me up to concentrate on the artwork.

The studio has been rearranged to take in the large Jull Street Map painting and both the traveling canvases. It’s time to rank things up and start integrating the work as a whole for the forthcoming exhibition – it’s easier to do this if all the work is together.  Besides which,  when I come into studio each day, it is almost impossible not to want to pick up a paintbrush and get stuck in.

The traveling canvases will remain in the studio from now on.

All the images for the first traveling canvas are all marked in, with the work at various stages of completion.  All that remains now is to finish it all to a satisfactory level and then prepare the canvas itself for hanging.

First traveling canvas, well on the way to completion.
